This year’s Bricks and Mortar Ball raises over £35,000!

Over 200 of our supporters gathered at the V&A Museum of Childhood in London on 22nd November for our second Bricks and Mortar Ball. Guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of entertainment which included live and silent auctions, a photo booth and a very impressive men vs women Bollywood dance-off.

This year’s event was again aimed at raising money to help redevelopment of the Kripasaran orphanage in Darjeeling, and we were buoyed by recent success: in October our Chairperson had the honour of helping to open the new boys’ accommodation block in Darjeeling. This year we were hoping to raise enough money to get the second phase of the project off the ground, and the Ball surpassed all our expectations: our generous guests pledged to cover the costs of toilets, doors and beds in the girls’ accommodation, bought golden ‘bricks’ for our wall and bid furiously on our wonderful auction lots. Our grand total of £35,118 will allow us to commission works to begin in Darjeeling earlier than we had anticipated, and they should be underway in the next few months.

The Ball was organised entirely by volunteers, specifically our London-based Trustees Katie Williams and Polly Martin and their fantastic team of helpers. A massive thank you to all of those who helped make this year’s Ball possible, either by helping on the night, supporting with donations and prizes, or just by coming along and having fun.
