Good news from Antarctica

Dear all,

You may recall that I recently wrote about Trust supporter Alan Young
and his ambition to run a marathon in Antarctica raining money for the
children of Darjeeling. The wonderful news is that Alan has achieved
this epic task.

It sounds like an amazing adventure – 7000 miles of flying, hold ups in
Puerto Arenas in Argentina waiting for weather clearance for the flight
down in an Ilyushin jet to the frozen continent, winds in the town so
strong that small children had to be picked up or they would be blown
away, and only 20 minutes notice of the flight take off.

And then – great news – despite all these difficulties Alan achieved his
goal, coming 40th out of 52 runners. The bad news was that the plane
flying in to take them back to Argentina was held up and the beer ran
out – I blame the penguins! If you would still like to support Alan his
fund raising page is at www.justgiving/Alan-Young-Antartica-Marathon. I
have attached a couple of photos which you might be interested to see of
the event.

Congratulations Alan from everyone at Darjeeling Children’s Trust,

Best wishes,
Marilyn Adams
